Thea Maia - biography

I attended the University of Southern California for my freshman year, then completed my BFA & MFA at the University of Washington. I have taught painting and drawing at the University of Washington and to private students.

I worked at a number of artist supply stores including Daniel Smith Artists Materials in Seattle, where I trained employees and customers about art supplies.

I have worked as small as 3 x 5 inches up to 6 x 18 feet and 10 x 10 feet.

I have worked in watercolor, oil, water-miscible oils, acrylic, egg tempera, monotype (with oil & water-miscible printing inks), charcoal, colored pencil (wax & oil), pastels, ink, graphite, water-soluble graphite, fabric paint and dyes, Japanese Shibori tie-dyeing, weaving, stone and metal-cast sculpture, paper sculpture, cloth mache, life-cast plaster molds, clay slip casting, clay, painted pottery, theatrical makeup, temporary tattoo inks, wax encaustic, pre-made & custom-cut stenciling, pre-made & custom-cut hand stamping, costume design, 16 years of retail visual display, and digital graphics using Photoshop.

I have acted, written short stories, written and directed plays, and designed and created theatrical costumes and props.

I have provided party planning, design, and installation for many types of corporate parties and special events including Microsoft, weddings, Pepsi Co., Wizards of the Coast, and Daniel Smith Artists Materials.
